Dave drives this 1978 Dodge Magnum EX and here is his tale.

The very first car I ever purchased new was a 1978 Dodge Magnum. It was October of 1977 and I was driving a 77 Olds Cutlass Salon that I recently bought as a 6-month-old repo. It was alright, but I had always been a MOPAR man.

I was strongly considering ordering a black Diplomat until I saw my First Magnum. It was all over at that point and that night I ordered a black one with black interior. I also ordered the 360 lean burn, convenience group, tilt, leather covered steering wheel , speed control, AM/FM 4-speaker stereo, and power windows.

Since my first Magnum, I have been trying to find another one to take it's place. This is that car. Last May, I found this 1978 Magnum, black with black leather interior. The car had been toatally restored. The seller wanted $7,500. The car had T-Tops, a 400CI, but with a column shift. It was located in Tucson, AZ.

My family motor homes for about 4 weeks every summer and we were going west this year so I arranged to see it while driving through in early June. I saw it, I loved it, and the seller and I struck a deal for $5,500. A couple weeks later when we came through again I bought a car trailer to trailer it home. I've since put another $2,000 in it replacing the a/c, rear main bearing seal, and some engine dress-up. I'm trying to get my hands on mild headers and dual exhaust. This car looks and runs better than the one I bought new in 1978 because it has been over-restored. That is to say, the paint, engine and interior are better than what the factory was producing back in '78.

In addition to the warmed over 400 engine and 727 transmission, a 2000 Durango stereo, hidden remote and dark tint all around. To help it's breathing, I added Flow Master 40's to the dual exhaust.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to drive any car that I want. I've had many new Cadillacs, Mercedes, and other very nice cars. I currently have a Viper GTS and a Museum with about 25 Cars/trucks and 27 Indian motorcycles. The point is that the Magnum is my favorite all-time car, bar none! It is my every day driver. Back in 1978 people either loved them or hated them. Today most people love their styling. I was even getting thumbs up for the clapped-out Yellow one that was on my trailer the other day. The Magnum is a very distinctive car. In these days of cookie-cutter cars the Magnum says style and class. Its beauty is timeless. I woud rather drive my Dodge Magnum than any other car produced today!
